C) LITERATURE UNITS

1. MYTHOLOGY AND SHORT FICTION

This unit assesses students’ prior knowledge of the narrative form.  It includes expository and descriptive writing, the study of parts of speech and strategies for correct spelling.  The students will enhance their appreciation of the narrative by examining a variety of selections, and recognizing the connection between modern stories and classic myths, recognizing their historical origins and critically assessing their purpose and relevance.  Students will also study various mythological stories from different cultures, and learn to write well-structured paragraphs, the basis for future essay work.
